PREPARATION OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION

In the development of technology for the construction of a residential road required an innovation in order to pay attention to the comfort and safety of citizens as traffic access each day. Not only in terms of the construction of a modern house but the access road is also one of the complex things to be considered in detail by the homeowner and residential developers. Here’s a review of the technological advances asphalt/bitumen, which is one aspect of the road construction.

Asphalt or bitumen is a viscous liquid which is hydrocarbons, contains little sulfur, oxygen, and chlorine. Asphalt as a binder in flexible pavement has viscoelastic properties. Asphalt will be solid at room temperature and is liquid when heated. Bitumen is a product derived from oil. The shape is semi-solid and is produced by removing the light fractions (such as LPG, Diesel, Gasoline) of crude oil distillation process. The weight fraction of the most under further processed into bitumen. In this process, the bitumen called bitumen refined distillates.

Bitumen emulsion is a disperse system in which bitumen is distributed in water phase in the form of small droplets. The percentage of bitumen in the emulsion depends on its future use but is usually at 30-70%.  Today, bitumen emulsion is very popular when performing tasks such as Surface treatment, Filling of cracks, Binding of dust, Reinforcing soil, Production of cold mixes, Binding of pavement layers, Production of crushed stone with impregnation.

GlobeCore offers high efficiency for bitumen emulsion production not only supplies bitumen equipment but also, if necessary, offers to commission and provides a number of other services, allowing to organize your own production from scratch.

The production process of bitumen emulsions is inextricably connected with bitumen emulsification. Currently, there are several approaches to the production of this material: mechanical, acoustic, chemical and aeration. Mechanical method means grinding of initial bitumen by compression, impact, stretching, friction and other external forces. With the acoustic method, the properties of ultrasonic waves are used for bitumen milling. The chemical method causes bitumen breaking by the reaction between injected substances (acids) and binder. Interfacial tension is reduced and further simple mixing results in emulsification.

To eliminate the risk of forming and ejection of the mix out of the emulsifying unit, the temperatures of bitumen and emulsifier solution are set so as not to exceed 200ºС total. The temperature of bitumen is kept unchanged, while the temperature of the product at the outlet of the emulsifying unit must not exceed 90ºС.

The process of bitumen emulsion preparation starts from the supply of emulsifier solution into the unit, followed by bitumen. If using acoustic dispersers, the duration of mixing is 5 to 7 minutes after supplying the full batch of bitumen, and in the case of a vane mixer it takes 5 to 8 minutes after supplying the solution when inverse emulsions are made. If slotted dispersers are used, the mixing process is continuous.
