Shorncliffe Pier 2011

Last time I was here it was a hive of activity with workers everywhere so I didn’t bother to walk out on the Jetty. This morning though, it was very quiet and peaceful. There were people walking, and some fishing and one lady with several crab pots tied to the side (you can see the blue rope of one of them on the right) I just loved those fluffy clouds above.

During the early history of Shorncliffe and its neighbouring bayside suburb Sandgate, both were beachside suburbs visited by Brisbane residents for day trips and holidays. The pier began construction in 1865 and was finished in 1872.(renovations have been made to the jetty since its construction)

Earlier this year Shorncliffe Pier was transformed into a bedroom, a kitchen, and even a vegetable garden, for the filming of a series of television commercials for a British retailer.

Homebase are the UK’s second largest home improvement store with more than 300 large, out-of-town stores throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland selling over 30,000 products across DIY and decorating, home and garden ranges.

Shorncliffe was chosen from a selection of film locations worldwide as the setting for the commercials by Homebase because of the wonderful Pier and the Queensland weather. (Info sourced from John Oxley Library)
